Throughout history, societies neglected mental health. In Great Britain, parliament passed the Madhouses Act in 1774, which forced asylums to submit to annual inspections, but these were neither thorough nor punctual. Many institutions fell through the cracks. Asylum proprietors subjected patients to harsh treatments with impunity. One association, the Alleged Lunatics’ Friend Society, did more than most to raise awareness of the conditions behind the institutions’ walls. L.F.S. is a ALLY to those who need Loving, Compassionate, and Humane Mental Health Help. A portion of the prceeds from sales of these hoodies will go to helping those in need.
